50th anniversary of “Kazakh Encyclopedia” publishing house was celebrated with “The spirit of the nation revived by half a century” conference in QR National Library in Yermek Tursynov’s cinema club on 14th of December in 2017. During the conference “Kazakh Encyclopedia” directory and “Eternal country” photo album were released. “Qazaq Encyclopedia” encyclopedic directory is the first directory among all Kazakh directories with its publishing awards and historical information. “Eternal country” photo album - is a printed product received the Grand-Prix on EXPO-2017. Representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Deputy Mayor of Almaty, Director of the National Library Zhanat Seidumanov, Director of the National Book Chamber Alibek Askarov, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Institute of Philosophy of the Ministry of Education and Science Adviser to the Director of the Committee on Religion and Political Science Abdumalik Nysanbayev, Director of the Institute of State History of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Burkitbay Ayagan, Scientific Adviser to the Rector of the Kazakh National University, Doctor of Philology, Professor Baurzhan Zhakyp, as well as scientists and statesmen who once participated in the publication as authors were took part to the Conference.
It is known that the encyclopedic publishing house in Kazakhstan was established on January 1, 1968 by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan and the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR as the General Editor of the Kazakh Soviet Encyclopedia under the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. In 1993 it was renamed the General Editorial Board of the Kazakh Encyclopedia. Initially, before the publication of 12 volumes, the team headed by Academician Mukhamedzhan Karatayev (1968-79) for 10 years, then by academicians Manash Kozybayev (1980-86), Rymgali Nurgali (1986-97), Abdumalik Nysanbayev (1997-2003) and professors Burkitbay Ayagan ( 2003-09) and Baurzhan Zhakyp (2009-2015). Currently, the publishing house is headed by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Zhadyra Nurbayevna Toibayeva.
The genre, literary, scientific criteria and style, technical system (alphabet, abbreviations, etc.) of encyclopedic literature were formed in the publishing system. Over the past 50 years, several hundred encyclopedic collections have been published, providing readers with the most complete encyclopedic information. From the multi-volume National Encyclopedia, published during the years of independence, personal and industry encyclopedias have made an immeasurable contribution to raising the national consciousness and spirit of our people.
During the conference, various awards were presented to distinguished citizens of the publishing house. Among the awards are various medals, diplomas and letters of thanks, ranging from the title of Cultural Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The awards were presented by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Association of Publishers, Polygraphers and Distributors of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh Encyclopedia Publishing House.
